This Single Trip Permit is valid for single vehicle and/or combinations including the load/cargo of more than these dimensions:
- Width - 3.99 m
- Height - 4.25 m
- Length (in combination) - 36.70 m
- Weight - 63,500 Kg
A pre-move route survey must be conducted by the Applicant to ensure that vertical and horizontal clearances on the proposed move route are adequate. Halton Region cannot be held responsible for the Applicant not conducting a pre-move route survey.
It is the responsibility of the Applicant to attain all necessary Permits by other road jurisdiction authorities (i.e. Provincial or Municipal Permits).
The Applicant is responsible to make all necessary arrangements with Halton Regional Police, Bell Telephone, Hydro One, local Public Utilities and municipal governments or any other agencies whose infrastructure may be affected by the move. This must occur prior to the issuance of this Permit (where applicable).
Escorts are provided following the Ministry of Transportation Ontario guidelines:
- Private escort: loads 4.0 m to 4.99 m wide, greater than 4.85 m in height, and/or 36.75 m to 45.74 m in length. If travelling on 2 lane roadways a second private escort is required. One escort shall precede the load on 2-lane roads or follow the load on multi-lane roadways. A second private escort is required to follow the load while travelling on 2-lane roadways. For loads greater than 4.85 m in height one escort must be a pole vehicle and precede the load.
- Two Police escorts: loads 5.0 m or more in width and/or 45.74 m or more in length
- Police escorts may also be required for overweight loads.
- There may be instances where due to the parameters of the roadway, escort requirements may change. If necessary, Halton Region may require escorts when normally none are required or additional escorts to those already requiring escorts.
- Exceptions may be granted for mobile/modular homes.
- If a Police escort is required, it is the carrier’s responsibility to make all arrangements for the escort through Halton Regional Police.
- Private escorts do not have traffic control authority.
All submissions should include a list and type of escort vehicle(s) travelling with the load.
A copy of this Single Trip Permit must be kept in all vehicles conducting the move, and the Single Trip Permit must be surrendered to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) or Halton Region Police Service (HRPS) upon demand.8. This Single Trip Permit does not allow oversize or overweight vehicles to use roads that have axle load restrictions, roads posted as “No Truck Routes” or roads labelled as “Class B Roads”. These are separate regulations that supersede the issuance of a Single Trip Permit.
Halton Region must be notified if conditions applying to the Single Trip Permit change through the term of the Permit (i.e. Liability Insurance, CVOR, list of vehicles).
Permit holder must comply with Ontario Regulation 363/04 – Security of Loads.
All loads must have the following:
- Red protecting flags displayed on all 4 corners during daylight hours.
- Illuminated red lights on all corners of the overhanging load ½ hour before dusk and ½ hour after dawn.
- An over dimensional banner displayed on the front and rear bumper of combination.
This Single Trip Permit is not valid during adverse weather, poor visibility or poor road conditions. Re-scheduling of the proposed move may be required. The Applicant is responsible to notify Halton Region Staff assigned to this Permit of proposed date(s).
This Single Trip Permit is valid only for the Carrier named on the Permit and the dates specified on the Permit.
Halton has the authority to amend the following after Permit issuance:
- Moves shall be limited to ½ hour before dusk and ½ hour after dawn and not extend into non-daylight hours.
- Moves must not be completed during weekends (Saturday/Sunday) or statutory holidays.
- Moves must be outside the peak hours of 6:30am-9:00am and 3:30pm-6:00pm.
- Loads should not park, stopover or layover on a Halton Region right-of-way.
No single trip moves are permitted between December 24 and January 3 in any year. Applications for moves may still be processed prior to December 24 for after January 3.
Overweight loads (> 63,500 Kg) are NOT permitted on the EASTBOUND Tansley Structure on Dundas St. (the structure just east of Sutton Dr. or ~2km east of Appleby Line). Overweight loads are permitted on the westbound Tansley Structure on Dundas St. Applicants must provide a route that does not include the use of this structure or travel in the westbound lanes with Police assistance at their own expense. Police must provide traffic control if eastbound loads are travelling in the westbound lanes over this structure.
Loads that are 100,000Kg gross vehicle weight or more may require Police escorts (2) through Halton Region. In addition, a copy of the Ministry of Transportation Ontario Permit must be submitted to Halton Region prior to the move. The following restrictions will apply at all bridges and/or structures identified along the route:
- Only the tractor/cargo will be on the structure during the crossing and police will close the road to ensure no other vehicles are on the structure at that time.
- The haul vehicle will be restricted to 20 km/h at and over the structures.
- The haul vehicle will travel in the centre of the structures.
- The haul vehicle will avoid braking on the structures.
In addition to the above restrictions, for gross vehicle weights in excess of 120,000 Kg Halton Region may require the Applicant to hire a consultant engineer to evaluate the bridges, roads and/or structures along the route and submit a stamped evaluation for approval. A second evaluation may be required after the load passes. Applications for loads in excess of 120,000 Kg will require additional time for consideration and processing beyond the 5 business days. Applicants should submit their application at least 45 days in advance. Halton Region may require that a bond or other security be posted before issuing a Permit for a single trip in excess of 120,000 Kg.
A performance bond may also be required if loading on tires exceeds 11 Kg/mm. The value of the bond will be determined by Halton Region and is not subject to negotiation. The carrier may be required to pay for services of a Halton approved geotechnical and/or structural consultant to assess conditions and evaluate damages cause by the load.
