May is a busy month for us with many special recognition weeks. We have a fantastic team working in many different professions that provide vital services and support to our community daily. Check out the information and videos below showcasing some members of our team and their talents.
Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4 – 10) Be Prepared. Know the Risks.
This year, we wanted to do something different for Emergency Preparedness Week. We’re taking you behind the scenes to meet the Halton staff who help us plan and respond to community emergencies.
Are you ready for an emergency? Emergencies can happen anytime. I encourage you to learn about the hazards, make a plan, and get a kit! Visit our Emergency Preparedness webpage to find out what should go in your emergency kit and what to do before, during, and after an emergency.
Thank you to everyone at Halton who is part of our emergency management response when emergencies happen!
National Nursing Week (May 12 – 18) The Power of Nurses to Transform Health
Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system and contribute in many ways to positive health outcomes. Our Public Health and long-term care nurses apply their knowledge and expertise to help keep people safe and healthy. We operate three Regional long-term homes in Halton, and the nurses in these homes provide essential, compassionate care for our most vulnerable residents.
Our Public Health nurses positively support health in many ways. They immunize thousands of students each year, investigate and manage communicable disease outbreaks, work with community partners on projects like the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, promote mental health resources, provide direct care through our sexual health clinics, and regularly work with schools to promote positive, healthy behaviours. They also provide vital health information and resources supporting people at all stages of life.
Thank you to all the fantastic nurses at Halton Region! We know firsthand that you have the power to transform health!
Public Works Week (May 18 – 24) People. Purpose. Presence.
From ensuring safe, high-quality drinking water to managing waste collection, wastewater treatment, and maintaining Regional roads, our Public Works team plays an essential role in your daily life. From the crews repairing watermains to the operators at our waste management site, our front-line staff are out in all conditions to keep services running smoothly. Beyond the front lines there is also another layer of dedicated professionals who make it all possible, including those who support training and certifications, coordinate service permits, oversee inspections and plan and implement major infrastructure projects.
Our Public Works team includes engineers, mechanics, water distribution operators, environmental lab analysts, waste diversion coordinators, electricians, construction inspectors, service permit coordinators and much more. Comprising a diverse range of professionals, our team is committed to building and maintaining the infrastructure necessary for our growing community.

Paramedic Services Week May 18-24 (Theme: We Care. For Everyone.)
When a medical emergency happens, our paramedics respond, providing lifesaving care and transforming people's lives. Every second counts, and this amazing team responds to more than 59,000 calls and transports nearly 36,000 people yearly. As our community grows, so does our Paramedic Services team.
We currently have 260 paramedics operating out of 15 stations across Halton. Over the next 10 years, we will build new stations, add more staffing hours and expand our community programs to meet the growing demands of our community. In partnership with other health agencies, we offer unique support to the community, including our Community Paramedicine Program and lifesaving and emergency training for residents and businesses across Halton.

It will be a great day with fun activities for all ages, including CPR demonstrations and the opportunity to climb aboard our emergency vehicles. Non-perishable food donations are being collected for the Kerr Street Mission.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our incredible Paramedics. Your dedication to our community and your courage in providing medical care to people, often under challenging circumstances, are truly commendable.
