Spring events to help you clean up your garden and house

Spring has arrived, and you may be turning your attention to cleaning up your yard or around your house. I am happy to share some special upcoming waste events and services that may interest you!

Yard Waste reminders:

  • Spring is here, and so is yard waste collection! Use paper yard waste bags or reusable, rigid containers (no lids). View your waste calendar online to find your next pick-up date.
  • Yard waste in cardboard boxes, Blue Boxes, Green Carts, plastic bags, compostable or biodegradable bags will NOT be collected.
  • Remember: Grass clippings, sod, dirt and plastic pots or bags do not go into your yard waste, please drop them off at Halton Waste Management Site (fees apply)!
  • Soil bags go in your garbage for curbside collection.
  • Remember to grass cycle by leaving grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. Grass clippings are approximately 80 per cent water and will decompose quickly, releasing valuable nutrients back into the soil. Grass cycling is an environmentally and financially friendly option for your lawn care.

Compost Giveaway:

  • Gardeners, get your shovels out! The Spring Compost Giveaway will occur at the Halton Waste Management Site from May 5 to 11.
  • You can collect up to seven 20-litre containers (or equivalent) of free compost material per household. Non-perishable food items and debit/credit monetary donations to support local food banks are encouraged. Cash donations will not be accepted at this time.
