As Halton's largest community housing provider, we believe that housing is more than just a place to live, it’s about fostering a strong, connected community. That’s why we support initiatives that focus on quality-of-life programs that bring our tenants and partners together - and what better way than through something as simple, yet impactful, as a haircut?
Through an annual Barbershop Event, Halton Community Housing Corporation hosts tenants, families, and community partners at one of our Halton Community Housing locations to provide free haircuts for tenants with food, games, and fun for all in attendance.
While a fresh haircut can boost confidence, the impact of these events goes much deeper. Community events like this help tenants connect, youth can see and be positive role models to younger children, and community partners get to meet and engage as friends.

A Community Effort
This incredible event is organized by Juliet Duke, a dedicated supportive housing tenant, alongside our HCHC Youth Council. It is attended by partners like our Community Mobilization Officers from the Halton Regional Police Service and the YMCA of Oakville. Local barbers also generously donate their time and skills to ensure that kids, youth, and community members leave feeling confident and ready to take on the world. Their generosity, combined with the enthusiasm of our tenants, make events like this a resounding and continued success. The event is planned again this September, ahead of the start of the next school year.
This is what community-building looks like— many small actions and individual contributions that lead to big impacts.
