Aug 30, 2021
The application to expand the Burlington Quarry is currently under technical review with members of the Joint Agency Review Team (JART) which includes the City of Burlington, Conservation Halton and the Niagara Escarpment Commission. We are all committed to ensuring the public can easily access information about the review process to submit timely input at each stage of review. We want to ensure the planning decisions reflect the needs of residents and their interests are protected throughout the application review process.

Aug 30, 2021

Halton Region is holding a virtual Statutory Public Meeting on September 15 at 11:30 a.m. for Regional Council to hear feedback from the community on the proposed amendment to the Halton Regional Official Plan to expand the Burlington Quarry. Nelson Aggregate Co. has applied to extend the license and extraction areas to the south and west of the existing quarry. The Burlington Quarry is located to the west of the hamlet of Mount Nemo in the City of Burlington.

“The application to expand the Burlington Quarry is currently under technical review with members of the Joint Agency Review Team (JART) which includes the City of Burlington, Conservation Halton and the Niagara Escarpment Commission,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “We are all committed to ensuring the public can easily access information about the review process to submit timely input at each stage of review. We want to ensure the planning decisions reflect the needs of residents and their interests are protected throughout the application review process.”
JART is responsible for providing technical advice to each agency that reviews the application and is dedicated to ensuring policies and regulations are followed.

On May 14, 2020, Halton Region received an application from Nelson Aggregate Co. to amend the Halton Regional Official Plan to expand the Burlington Quarry by re-designating and identifying the subject lands as “Mineral Resource Extraction Area”. In addition to the Regional Official Plan Amendment application, the overall quarry expansion proposal involves applications with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the Niagara Escarpment Commission and the City of Burlington in order to extend the license and extraction areas to the south and west of the existing quarry lands.
