Update on trade with the United States

The recently announced U.S. tariff policies could significantly impact local businesses. The Halton Small Business Centre has a suite of programs, services and resources to help businesses navigate these changes.

Free one-on-one support

Book a free one-on-one consultation with a Business Consultant

Email smallbusiness@halton.ca with:

  • preferred dates and times for a consultation (meetings can be booked from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • preferred format for the meeting (virtual or on-site)
  • details on the types of business supports that you would like to access

You can also call 311 and ask to speak with a consultant from the Small Business Centre.

Expanding beyond U.S. trade dependencies is crucial. The Halton Global Business Centre offers resources to help businesses explore new markets, including export guidance through one-on-one consultations, resources and tools, webinars and seminars, networking opportunities, and strategies for international expansion.

Financial assistance programs, grant and training programs

Local Halton Region programs

  • Starter Company Plus: Supports aspiring entrepreneurs aged 18 or older who are looking to build their small businesses through training and mentoring, with an opportunity to pitch for a $5,000 grant. Attend an information session to learn more—you can find a list of upcoming session dates on the Starter Company Plus webpage.
  • Futurpreneur: Provides financing, mentoring and support to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners aged 18-39 who have been operating a business full time for less than 12 months. To learn more about the program, register for an upcoming information session using our online form, call 311 or 1-866-442-5866 (toll-free).
  • Virtual Youth Job Connection Program: Connects employers with youth aged 15-29 who are currently looking for a job or career and not attending or returning to full-time school or training. The program may contribute funding to employers to offset the cost of wages and training for participants. Interested employers can email Employment Halton .
