Visitor Information
- For health and safety reasons, Waste Management Attendants are not permitted to assist customers with the unloading of materials. Pre-arrange assistance to help unload heavy material, if needed.
- Payment types: Credit and Debit (no cash or coins).
- Secure all open loads with a tarp or rope.
- Customers are expected to sort their loads by material type. Pre-sort loads prior to delivery to the HWMS for quick and easy unloading.
- Bricks, concrete, and rubble with rebar or wire mesh, or pieces larger than 1 square foot, cannot be accepted for recycling. These items are accepted as garbage at the tipping fee of $209/tonne.
- Clean fill, woodchips, bricks, concrete and rubble material must be removed from bags or containers prior to disposal.
- For tree trunks and stumps to be accepted as yard waste they cannot be larger than 2m long and 1m diameter (6ft x 3ft).
- Remove all fluids (gas, oil, etc.) from gas powered equipment such as lawnmowers.
- Oil drums and tanks must be empty and cut in half.

Household Hazardous Waste Depot
- Safely dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot, located at the Halton Waste Management Site.
- 20 litre and 8 fluorescent tube/bulb maximum limit per day.
- Commercial loads not accepted.
- Drop-off materials in their original container (not returnable) and securely close with a lid. Materials can also be dropped off a closed container, labelled with information about the contents.
- Do not place hazardous waste at the curb, it will not be collected.
- Do not place hazardous waste in garbage or down the drain or storm sewer.

Orange Box for Household Hazardous Waste
The orange box provides a safe place to store old, used, or unwanted household hazardous waste until it can be dropped off at the Halton Waste Management Site's Household Hazardous Waste Depot, a Special Waste Drop-off Day, or an alternative disposal location. Residents can pick up one Orange Box per household, free of charge, from the Halton Waste Management Site. Material dropped off without an orange box will still be accepted. Note: There is no curbside collection for the Orange Box.
Paint & Stain Reuse Depot
- The Paint & Stain Reuse Depot is open for the season. Check the Halton Waste Management Site hours of operation.
- Located beside the Household Hazardous Waste Depot at the Halton Waste Management Site.
- Pick up and drop off usable paint and stain, free of charge.
- The HWMS cannot guarantee which colours will be available.
- Open from spring to fall.
Reuse Depot
Halton residents can drop off items that are in good condition and fit for resale at the Reuse Depot, located within the Halton Waste Management site. Donating all clothing, textiles, and household items helps support life altering services and programs to the residents of Halton Region.

- Electronic waste can be dropped off for free at the Halton Waste Management Site’s Waste & Recycling Depot.
- Special Waste Drop-off Day
To make the recycling of household hazardous waste and electronic waste more convenient to residents, Halton Region holds Special Waste Drop-off Days throughout the year. Special Waste Drop-off Days are for Halton residents only. No commercial wastes are accepted - Electronic Products Recycling Association (external link) (EPRA)
EPRA is an approved producer responsibility organization managing the regulated program that collects and responsibly recycles end-of-life electronics. Pick up or exchange a blue box or green cart
Halton residents may pick up one free Blue Box each year from any of the locations listed below. Broken Blue Boxes and broken Green Carts are recycled into new containers and may be returned and exchanged for free.
Please call 311 to confirm availability before visiting to pick up or exchange a Blue Box. Green Carts can be picked up at the Halton Waste Management Site.
