Staying physically active is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being – it boosts energy levels, can improve sleep and reduce stress. As families across Halton get ready for March Break, I encourage everyone to plan some active outdoor fun! Our communities have many trails, activities and natural spaces to get out and enjoy. Here are just a few ideas:
- Discover a local conservation area: Plan a trip to a community destination like Bronte Creek Provincial Park, the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Bruce Trail or Conservation Halton (external link) Park. From hikes to geocaching, history lessons and other educational activities, they offer fun adventures for everyone. Remember to book your visit in advance if required to help with physical distancing with others.
- Visit a local park: Spend an afternoon at the park with your family for fresh air! You can play on the playground or in the field, skate on an outdoor rink or check out a nearby trail. You can find parks near you at the municipal websites for the City of Burlington (external link), Town of Halton Hills (external link), Town of Milton (external link) and Town of Oakville (external link). You can also visit the Local Municipal websites to learn about recreation programs, such as outdoor skating, and find additional information about opportunities to get active in your area.
- Explore and enjoy your neighbourhood: There are so many ways to have some fun right in your neighbourhood, such as scavenger hunts and walking or biking to a local shop or restaurant.
March Break is also the perfect time for you or your family to get the COVID-19 vaccine or catch-up with the latest dose available to you. Ensuring your family is fully vaccinated (and boosted, if eligible) is critical to protecting yourself and your loved ones from severe illness. There are many options available in our community to get vaccinated, including Halton Region’s Community clinics and three Paediatric clinics – featuring our team of Halton Heroes and friendly, highly skilled clinic staff! I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone planning a well-deserved March Break! Get outdoors, get active and enjoy the natural beauty that helps keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
