Regional Chair Gary Carr: Honouring our soldiers and Veterans

Each November, we remember the immense contributions of Veterans, including all Indigenous Veterans, who have protected peace and freedom worldwide throughout our nation’s history.

On November 8, National Indigenous Veterans Day, and November 11, Remembrance Day, we honour them and reflect on their sacrifices in past wars and operations, including peacekeeping missions and exercises. We also think about the many soldiers in the Canadian Armed Forces who continue to bravely protect and serve, bringing much-needed aid, stability, and support to areas in conflict.

I will be wearing a poppy, and I encourage you to do the same as a symbol of recognition and remembrance for our Veterans and soldiers. Today, Remembrance Day ceremonies are being held across Halton, including one at Halton Regional Centre, where we will gather to reflect on and thank all who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. On behalf of the Regional Council, I would like to thank our Veterans and all those serving today in the Canadian Armed Forces for their sacrifice and service.
