The need for affordable market housing is reaching a critical point, with more and more Ontarians finding it out of reach. This is increasing the demand for rentals and housing assistance and underscores the urgency of our housing initiatives.
To support provincial and local housing targets, we are focused on delivering more assisted rental units to our community.
Over the last 10 years, we have created over 1,180 units across the region. We have 5 projects making great progress that will provide an additional 115 units and another 246 units recently acquired. This includes our Kerr St. project, which is creating 52 new units for seniors with a ground-floor Community Wellness Hub! Check out the incredible progress:

We also have 505 units that are investment ready (PDF file). That means we have the water and wastewater infrastructure in place, ready to be hooked up and zoning complete. These are located within rapidly growing areas of Oakville and Milton.
In case you missed it!

Regional Chair Gary Carr: Delivering water and wastewater services to support getting more homes built faster
Our work does not stop here. We have plans for more housing opportunities and a commitment to deliver them as quickly as possible.
This week, Regional Council received an update from our Housing Team on their plans for the next 10 years. The 2025-2035 Comprehensive Housing Strategy will be presented to Council for approval in 2025. The proposed themes include creating new and assisted and supportive housing, protecting, and retaining community housing stock and strengthening community partnerships to deliver supports for a diverse range of resident needs.
The plan will also underscore the critical need for permanent, ongoing and sustainable funding partnerships with senior levels of government. This will help us keep our current pace and build as many assisted and supportive housing units as possible.

We are committed to creating more housing for those who need it most and keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
