April 22 is Earth Day. This annual event is another opportunity to highlight the actions - big and small - we can all take to protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
At Halton Region, we have plans in place to reach net zero GHG emissions by 2045. We’ve also recently achieved all of the milestones in the Partners for Climate Change Protection Program (externa link). This work is led by our Climate Change & Sustainability team, and I am proud to share some of the great work Regional employees are doing to support climate action. Watch now:

The effects of climate change are urgent and cannot be ignored. It is a global issue that requires local action. Our commitment to addressing climate change is a top priority and is integrated into our strategic plan and decision-making processes. In 2019, Regional Council declared a Climate Change Emergency, and our team at Halton is actively working to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change on our infrastructure, programs and services. I encourage you to read the 2024 Progress Report on our Corporate Climate Action Plan (PDF file) and check out our new online dashboard (external link) to see where we are heading and what we have achieved.
We’re committed to combating climate change and transitioning to a resilient, low-carbon future that enables people to live, grow, and thrive in Halton!
