Investing in Safety and Well-Being across Halton

At Council today, we received an update on the Halton Region Community Investment Fund—an important example of how targeted funding is making a meaningful difference in our community. Watch this video to learn how we are investing in mental health to ensure residents receive the support they need during a crisis (YouTube video).

In 2025, we invested over $5.2 million in health and social service programs that support residents across Halton. These investments help people live, grow and thrive by addressing urgent needs and building stronger, safer communities.

Here’s a snapshot of the types of programs we’re proud to support:

For children and youth

  • Infant food banks and school-based nutrition
  • Literacy support and one-on-one assistance for children who are neurodiverse
  • Peer mentorship to build confidence and life skills
  • Leadership and skill-building for youth in equity-deserving communities

For adults

  • Emergency housing for people with disabilities
  • Supports for those experiencing homelessness or transitioning from detention
  • Trauma-informed care for survivors of intimate partner violence
  • Education on the risks of sexual exploitation and human trafficking
  • Mental health supports and skills development for newcomers
  • Cooking and financial literacy classes for low-income residents

For older adults

  • Specialized home care for people living with dementia
  • Free mental health counselling
  • Outdoor recreation and social connection programs
  • Transportation to medical appointments, support for meal delivery services
  • Culturally appropriate wellness supports to promote physical and mental well-being
