Each November, we honour the remarkable contributions of Veterans—including Indigenous Veterans, who have defended peace and freedom throughout Canada’s history.
On National Indigenous Veteran’s Day (Nov. 8) and Remembrance Day (Nov. 11), we honour the bravery and sacrifice of all members of the Canadian Armed Forces, both past and present. We remember all those who sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars, Korean War, War in Afghanistan and in ongoing peacekeeping missions and exercises.
We also recognize the courage of those currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, who continue to bring aid, stability, and support to communities in need. To mark these days of remembrance, flags at Regional facilities will be half-mast in tribute to all who have served and continue to serve.
I'm wearing a poppy as a symbol of remembrance and encourage you to do the same. Remembrance Day ceremonies are being held across Halton, including at the Halton Regional Centre. For details about ceremonies in your community, visit legion.ca (external link).
On behalf of Regional Council, thank you to our Veterans and active service members for protecting our freedom and security, and for offering vital support to communities around the world during times of war, conflict, and instability. Your courage and dedication are deeply appreciated.
