Halton invests in 46 new assisted housing units in Milton

I’m pleased to share that Halton Regional Council has approved $16.5 million to support the creation of 46 new, deeply affordable housing units at 1001 Kennedy Circle in Milton. This investment advances our 10‑year Comprehensive Housing Strategy and responds to the growing need for safe, affordable housing in our community.

In partnership with the developer and CHMC, the project has transitioned from a condominium to purpose‑built rental housing. The Region is funding a portion of the units within a new 140‑unit building. The full project is also receiving $49.8 million in additional funding from CMHC’s Affordable Housing Fund (external link).

Construction is already 65% complete, with occupancy expected later in 2026. This investment directly supports our goal of creating 450 to 1,350 new assisted housing opportunities between 2025 and 2035.

  • All 46 units will be offered at or below 65% of CMHC's average market rent for one‑bedroom units in Halton, with rents ranging from $350 to $1,130 per month based on household income.
  • These units will be available to residents of all ages on the HATCH waitlist, helping address some of the highest housing needs in our region.
  • The building will also include ground‑floor community space and funding for a local non‑profit to provide on‑site supports for tenants.

The Region continues to pursue opportunities to acquire property, build new assisted and supportive housing, or partner with developers to secure units in new buildings. This project is a great example of how strong partnerships can make housing more accessible for those who need it most.

Thank you to our teams in Capital Construction & Realty and Housing Services for your continued work to help our community live, grow and thrive.
