Regional Councillor Colin Best, along with representatives from the school boards, joined Food4Kids Halton (external link) earlier today to unveil two new commercial fridges purchased through a $30,000 investment from the Halton Region Community Investment Fund. This is an important milestone for a program that is making a real difference in the lives of children and families across our community.
Food4Kids Halton’s Weekends Without Hunger program currently serves more than 1,200 children from over 800 families—children who may otherwise face weekends without enough to eat. The new fridges, along with support for operational costs at the Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills locations, will help Food4Kids Halton safely store more fresh, healthy and culturally appropriate food. This means the program can reach more children, support more families, and strengthen food security across our region. This is exactly what the Halton Region Community Investment Fund is designed to do: support local programs that improve residents' quality of life and build a safe, healthy, and inclusive community. By investing in organizations like Food4Kids Halton, we are directly investing in the growth, health, and well-being of children and youth.
To the staff, volunteers and Board of Directors at Food4Kids Halton: thank you. Your dedication ensures that more children in our community have reliable access to nutritious food, supporting their development and easing the burden on families who need it most.
I also want to thank our team working on the Halton Region Community Investment Fund in Social & Community Services, who work closely with community organizations across Halton to strengthen the food security system, giving more people access to the nutritious, healthy food they need.
Together, we are building a Halton where every child has the opportunity to live, grow and thrive.
