Planning ahead to protect our community

Article

Emergency Preparedness Week is a great time to shine a light on the people who work behind the scenes to help keep our community safe.

At Halton, our Emergency Management team is always planning ahead—building and maintaining emergency plans for Regional departments, so we’re ready to respond when something unexpected happens. They work closely with Local Municipalities, first responders (police, fire, paramedics), hospitals, utilities, Conservation Halton, and community partners like the Red Cross to support residents during large‑scale community emergencies.

The team is constantly monitoring potential risks and regularly participates in training and emergency exercises to ensure plans are up to date and ready to use. When an emergency does happen, we share timely updates through @regionofhalton social media channels and on halton.ca, including on our Services Disruptions page.

Be prepared: Know the risks. Make a plan. Build a kit.

Our website has an extensive section on Emergency Preparedness with great tools, tips and resources to help keep you and your loved ones safe.

Being prepared at home can make a real difference. Having an emergency kit ready—at home and in your car—can help if you and your families need to evacuate quickly or manage during a service disruption.

Thank you to all our partners for the vital work you do in responding to community emergencies and helping people prepare for the unexpected.

A little preparation goes a long way in helping our community stay safe, resilient, and ready—so everyone in Halton can live, grow, and thrive.
