Spring Waste Line-Up: Yard Waste, Compost Giveaway and More

Our Halton Waste Management team is ready for spring and returning our most popular services and programs for our community. Here are a few key updates: 

Yard Waste curbside collection is back!

Our seasonal yard waste collection started the week of March 30 and is underway in urban areas. 

  • Use a paper yard waste bag or an open, labelled, reusable, rigid container (no lids, please)
  • Please put your yard waste at the curb every other week on your regular collection day by 7 a.m. 
  • Never miss a pick-up! Check your schedule and sign up for reminders.

Sunday openings at Halton Waste Management Site

The Halton Waste Management Site will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays from May 3 through to Sunday, June 28.

Compost Giveaway Days

Spring Compost Give-Away: Monday, May 4 to Sunday, May 10

Kick off your spring gardening with us! Stop by the Halton Waste Management Site during regular site hours to pick up free compost during our annual Compost Giveaway, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

  • Bring your own shovel and containers—each household can collect up to seven 120‑litre containers (or equivalent).
  • We will also be accepting non‑perishable food items and cashless monetary donations for local Halton food banks.
  • Look out for updates later this year on our Fall Compost Giveaway planned for Saturday, September 19.
  • Please note that this event is for Halton residents only.

Special Waste Drop-Off Days

Halton Region is also hosting special drop-off events in each municipality to help residents safely dispose of household hazardous waste and electronics, free of charge. 

  • Bring items such as paint, batteries, compact fluorescent bulbs, household cleaners, propane tanks, motor oil, and electronics (computers, stereos, telephones, DVD players, TVs, monitors).
  • The first event is: Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre at 11620 Trafalgar Road in Georgetown
  • Look for more upcoming events.
