Wheeled Carts Rolling Out!

Article

I’m excited to share an important step forward in how we manage waste in Halton. Over the next two years, we’ll be rolling out our new Wheeled Cart Program to houses across the region, bringing a more efficient and sustainable approach to waste collection right to your curb.

A thoughtful, phased rollout

To ensure smooth implementation with minimal service disruption, the program will be introduced in two phases, covering about half of Halton households in each phase. This approach allows us to carefully manage delivery, respond to feedback and support residents every step of the way.

To learn more about the program and how the rollout will work, you can watch the video below featuring Alli, our Director of Waste Management, as she explains the program and what households can expect.

Meet your new wheeled carts!

If you’re wondering when you will get your carts, you can find out your phase using our online mapping tool. If you’re in Phase One, check your mailbox for an important letter containing program information - your carts will be delivered between January and March 2027, with collection beginning in April 2027.

As part of the program, each household with curbside collection will receive:

  • One (1) 240-litre wheeled garbage cart (Standard size)
  • One (1) 120-litre wheeled organics (Green) cart, designed with a gravity lock to help prevent pests.

Option for a smaller cart

We know that every household is different. If you typically put out less garbage during bi-weekly collection, you will have the option to request a smaller 120-litre garbage cart, which holds 1-2 standard garbage bags.

New! Phase One residents can now request a smaller 120-litre garbage cart using our online form (Requests must be submitted by August 15, 2026).

Learn more and stay informed

We want to make this change as easy as possible. Here are a few ways to stay connected:

I want to thank you, Halton, for your continued support as we move toward a more efficient and sustainable waste collection system! I also want to thank Alli and the entire Waste Management Services team for all their hard work in getting us to this exciting stage!
