Our Aaa rating keeps infrastructure costs low
Mar 25, 2025
Moody's Investors Service has affirmed Halton's Aaa credit rating for a 37th year!
It’s a Aaa rating again from Moody’s Investor Services! This affirms our strong financial position, keeping costs low as we build roads, water and wastewater infrastructure needed to accelerate growth.
For over 30 years, we have earned a top credit rating from Moody's Investor Services (external link). Earlier this month, Moody’s affirmed our Aaa rating for the 37th consecutive year, indicating their confidence in our ability to maintain our strong financial position. This rating is based on low debt, strong governance, strong population growth, and stable and predictable revenue sources.
Why top credit ratings matter
In addition to our Aaa rating, we also have a AAA rating from S&P Global Ratings. These ratings help us (and our local municipalities) secure the lowest possible rates when investing in large infrastructure projects. This means better value for taxpayer dollars when we build or expand infrastructure such as roads, water and wastewater plants and bridges. Our top credit ratings help us make public funds go further and minimize the long-term cost of large-scale construction.

Regional projects support our growing community
Our ability to keep costs low is essential. We have many projects in progress or planned that are necessary to meet the needs of our growing community. We are investing $9 billion over 10 years in water, wastewater, and road infrastructure to accelerate growth, increase housing supply and maintain a state of good repair.
Water and wastewater infrastructure: Over 90,000 housing units are in the development approvals pipeline across Halton. New developments need water for housing and businesses, and we build and maintain the infrastructure and pipes that deliver high-quality drinking water to your taps and ensure your toilets flush.
We recently announced an expansion of the Oakville Water Treatment Plant, which will help expand capacity and serve new homes in Halton.
Roads and bridges: We maintain and build Regional roads and bridges to help people and businesses move safely and efficiently across our region.
We’re extending roads and building bridges at Wyecroft Road and William Halton Parkway in Oakville, as well as widening and improving roads on Dundas Street in Burlington and Trafalgar Road in Halton Hills.
We have amazing infrastructure projects on the go and a vision for the future to maintain and deliver the high-quality services you rely on daily. Our top credit rating is a big part of everything we do. By maintaining our strong financial position, we can deliver the infrastructure our community needs and keep costs low for tax and rate payers. We’re committed to a financially strong Halton that supports people and businesses to live, grow, and thrive!
