Regional Chair Gary Carr: Oakville Water Treatment Plant to service 9,000 new homes

The Province has set a target to get 1.5 million homes built by 2031, and 92,500 of the homes are right here in our community across Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville.
Here at Halton Region, we deliver water, wastewater and road infrastructure to support getting homes built as fast as possible, and ensure these services are here for the future.
One of our major growth-supporting projects is the expansion of the Oakville Water Treatment Plant. This project will boost water production from 109 to 130 megalitres per day for 25,000 homes throughout Halton and support more than 9,000 new homes in North-East Oakville.
That’s like more than 50 Olympic-sized swimming pools of water delivered every day!
Provincial Partnerships to Service Growth
I’m pleased to share the Province recently announced that Halton Region will receive $20.8 million to fund this critical project! This is part of the Housing-Enabling Water Systems fund, created to help municipalities develop, repair, and expand critical drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure (external link). Thank you for supporting Halton residents.
This project is also part of our more than $5.2 billion investment in water, wastewater and road infrastructure required to support growth to 2031. Simply put: you need to have the water and wastewater infrastructure in place to get water to the taps and sanitary pipes flowing to live in these new homes!
We will continue to deliver the critical services you need now and in the future. Our successful funding partnerships with the Provincial and Federal Governments are critical to ensure you always have water to drink, toilets that flush and the safest roads to get to work, school and play.
I want to thank our Public Works team. We have very talented engineers and project managers working on this project who are committed to serving you! Thank you for all you do to help people live, grow and thrive in Halton!
