I'm proud to share that Halton Region has received $7.55 million in funding through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative and the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (external link) to support our ongoing work to deliver more assisted and supportive housing!
This investment will support the creation of 55 new rent-assisted units, including newly built or acquired housing and rent supplement units. These efforts directly support the goals of our Comprehensive Housing Strategy 2025–2035, helping more residents access safe and stable housing.
Funding breakdown
Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative
- $4M for new units with community housing providers through Halton’s Assisted Housing Portfolio
- $877K for essential capital repairs, prioritizing energy efficiency and life safety building upgrades
Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative
- $1.63M for new units with third-party developers through Halton’s Assisted Housing Portfolio
- $355K for rent allowances to help households cover monthly costs
- $242K for support services to prevent homelessness and preserve tenancies
- $70K for homeowner repairs and accessibility upgrades to support independent living
