The bridge is open, the connection is complete and north Oakville has a new way to move.
Whether you're commuting to work, taking the kids to school or simply travelling across town, getting around north Oakville just got easier.
The William Halton Parkway Extension is now open between Neyagawa Boulevard and Harasym Trail, completing an important east-west connection across north Oakville.
The new bridge over Sixteen Mile Creek and its connecting roadway create a continuous route between Ninth Line and Regional Road 25 (Bronte Road), providing drivers, cyclists and pedestrians an additional way to travel through the community.
What is William Halton Parkway?
A completed William Halton Parkway corridor provides approximately 12 kilometres of east-west roadway, including the new bridge over Sixteen Mile Creek.
The new corridor features:
- new roadway
- a new bridge over Sixteen Mile Creek
- four new roundabouts
- signalized intersections
- on-road bike lanes
- multi-use pathways and sidewalks
- new street lighting and landscaping
Together, these improvements provide more travel options for everyone using the corridor.
Why this project matters
Halton Region’s investment in William Halton Parkway represents a great new addition to the transportation network, improving connectivity, reducing traffic congestion and travel delays and enhancing active transportation opportunities for residents and commuters.
The completed William Halton Parkway corridor will:
- create a continuous east-west route across north Oakville;
- improve connectivity between existing and growing neighbourhoods;
- help distribute traffic across the road network;
- provide better access for emergency services, including Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital;
- make it easier and safer for people walking, cycling and driving with new sidewalks, multi-use paths and bike lanes; and
- provide another route option for residents, commuters, businesses and visitors traveling through the community
As Halton continues to grow, projects like this help ensure our transportation network keeps pace with the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.
Laying the groundwork
The William Halton Parkway Extension was delivered in phases, with the final phase—the bridge and roadway connection between Neyagawa Boulevard and Harasym Trail—opening this month.
Delivering a project of this scale meant carefully considering how the work could be completed while minimizing impacts on the surrounding environment. The project incorporated a number of measures to protect the area around Sixteen Mile Creek, including wildlife crossings and habitat protections, as well as temporary bridges to provide construction access to the valley while limiting impacts to fish and the creek.
Throughout the various phases of construction, our team worked closely with our contractor to ensure the infrastructure met the required quality and safety standards of the Region. While the second phase of the project took longer than originally anticipated, the project was completed on budget and is now ready to safely serve the community.
Building for Halton’s future
William Halton Parkway is another example of Halton Region’s long-term investment in the infrastructure needed to support our growing community. Halton currently serves more than 656,000 residents and is expected to grow to 1.1 million people by 2051. By making investments in transportation, water and wastewater infrastructure, we help ensure residents continue to have safe, reliable services now and into the future. This project is just one piece of that bigger plan, helping create a safer, more connected and reliable transportation network across Halton.

We know major construction projects can affect daily travel for residents, businesses and road users and we appreciate everyone's patience and understanding throughout the construction of the new roadway and bridge.
While the road is now open, some finishing work may continue in the area, including landscaping, fencing, signage updates and other miscellaneous work. Residents may see short-term lane restrictions affecting the roadway, multi-use paths or bike lanes while this work is completed.
The opening of William Halton Parkway marks an important milestone for north Oakville and for Halton's transportation network. We're excited to see this new connection open and look forward to the difference it will make for residents, commuters, businesses and visitors travelling through the community.
