Making investments in the programs and services that matter to you
Our 2024 Budget and Business Plan outlines strategic investments in essential services while keeping your tax and rate increases as low as possible. This year we have maintained service levels while addressing significant pressures caused by high inflation, growth and increased demand for services.
This year’s key investments include enhancements to Paramedic Services, affordable and assisted housing, Long-Term Care, the Halton Region Community Investment Fund, employment and financial services, waste management, road operations, and water and wastewater.
Our responsible and forward-looking approach has earned us a AAA/Aaa credit rating for over 30 years which makes your tax dollars go further. Thank you to my colleagues on Regional Council and Regional staff for their work to provide the best value for our residents and businesses. New Year, new healthy habits!
The New Year is a great time to get active and eat healthy. Small changes can make a big impact on your health:
- Take short breaks during the day to be active – take a stretch away from your desk or a walk around the block;
- Eat a variety of healthy foods daily, including vegetables, fruit and whole grains;
- Schedule time for physical activity. Skating or hiking are great winter activities in our community!
- Make water your drink of choice.
- If you smoke, consider quitting.
- Taking care of your mental health and well-being is just as important as your physical health. Learn about resources available to you and your loved ones.
Be winter ready
Keep yourself and the community safe this winter. Follow these three easy steps:
- Know the risks: Stay informed changing weather and emergencies.
- Make a plan: Ensure you and your family know what to do in the event of an emergency.
- Get a kit: Ensure you have all of the essentials at the ready. Learn how to build an emergency kit.
Being prepared also helps our first responders, so they can focus on those in immediate need during winter emergencies. Enjoy a safe and healthy winter season!
