Halton Region donates two decommissioned ambulances to St. John Ambulance

OAKVILLE: Halton Region donates two decommissioned ambulances to St. John Ambulance Canada, Halton Region Branch, strengthening medical support at community events and enhancing safety and responsiveness across the community.

“We’re proud to donate these vehicles to St. John Ambulance Canada for their medical responder program that provides first aid services in our community,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “We’ve donated ambulances to their dedicated team for more than two decades and share a commitment to providing care to those who need it most.”

Quick Facts

Paramedic Services vehicles typically complete their useful lifecycle after about five years of use. Instead of retiring these vehicles, Halton Region donates them to organizations like St. John’s Ambulance, extending their service life and promoting sustainability.

Since 2000, Halton Region has donated ambulances to St. John Ambulance and contributed vehicles to charitable initiatives in Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, South Sudan, Ukraine and First Nations Communities in Northwestern Ontario.

This donation is part of Halton Region’s Community Well-Being strategic initiative, which focuses on protecting and enhancing the health and safety of residents. By collaborating with trusted partners like St. John Ambulance, Halton Region ensures that communities have the necessary resources to remain safe and healthy amidst evolving needs.

“St. John Ambulance Canada plays a vital role in keeping our community safe and healthy by providing first aid services at events throughout the year,” said Greg Sage, Chief of Halton Region Paramedic Services. “We are proud to support their important work with the donation of these vehicles, which will enhance their ability to serve residents and strengthen our shared commitment to community well-being.”

“Having such wonderful community partners like the Halton Region allows St. John Ambulance to expand our Medical First Responder program outreach into the Halton community,” said Tim Bauer, Executive Director, St. John Ambulance. “Our mandate at St. John Ambulance is "saving lives at home, work and play". Halton Region's generous donation of 2 vehicles in support of our Medical First Responder program allows our volunteer teams to provide first aid coverage at hundreds of community events every year in Halton. Our sincerest thanks to the Halton Region for their continued support.”
