Halton Region Public Health: Office of the Medical Officer of Health

Quick facts

  • As of April 4, the Ministry of Health has declared the end of the 2024–2025 RSV season for the infant and high-risk children program.
  • The older adult RSV program remains active into the spring, as protection lasts for several years.
  • Beyfortus is no longer available for ordering and should not be administered during the spring.
  • Any unused Beyfortus should remain in cold chain storage for use in the next RSV season.

Key messages for healthcare providers

Infant RSV program

  • The 2024-2025 RSV Season has ended. Beyfortus (for infants and young children) or Abrysvo (for pregnant individuals) should only be administered next season at the direction of the Ministry of Health.
  • Since Beyfortus and Abrysvo provide protection for approximately six months, the fall is the optimal time for administration, to ensure protection during peak RSV activity.
  • Premises with unused, unopened doses must maintain cold chain storage (between +2.0°C to +8.0°C) for use in the 2025–2026 RSV season.
  • Do not return Beyfortus to Public Health unless the product is expired.

Older adult RSV program

  • RSV vaccine protection for older adults lasts up to three years.
  • Continue to offer RSV vaccine (Abrysvo or Arexvy) to eligible older adults (external link) throughout the spring months

Key messages for patients

  • Eligibility for the 2025–2026 infant and high-risk children RSV program will be shared closer to the fall.
  • If you are pregnant or will have a young infant during the fall or winter months, talk to your health care provider and visit Respiratory Syncytial Virus (external link) to learn more about protecting your infant from RSV.
