Quick facts
Halton Region Public Health is currently enforcing the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) among high school students born in 2008 – 2011. Students with incomplete immunization records may be suspended from school starting April 30, 2026.
Public Health has notified parents/students of outstanding vaccine requirements several times since September 2025 via mailed letters, emails, and text messages.
Families should call 311 or visit halton.ca/immunize to report student immunization records or to book a Public Health clinic appointment.
IPV vaccine is currently out of stock in Ontario.
Key messages for healthcare providers
You may experience an increase in immunization-related requests from parents/students related to ISPA enforcement and risk of school suspension. If you have questions, refer to our ISPA Resource Guide for Healthcare Professionals or call 311 and speak to an Immunization Nurse.
Patients lacking adequate documentation of immunization should be considered unimmunized and started on an immunization schedule appropriate for their age and risk factors. Refer to Catch-up Schedule 2: Children Starting Immunization Between 7-17 Years in Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules for Ontario – June 2022 (external PDF).
Students with a history of disease (clinical diagnosis or immunity by serology) require a completed Statement of Medical Exemption form. Please do not submit serology results alone.
IPV vaccine is currently out of stock. The Ministry of Health will advise when additional stock is available. Public Health will update healthcare providers when IPV can be ordered.
Students who are missing only IPV doses will not be suspended during the 2025-26 ISPA enforcement activities, and should call 311 to speak with a public health nurse.
