Our new assisted and supportive housing development for seniors is officially open at 265 Kerr Street! It was built at lightning speed in 18 months—faster than typical construction for a building of its size.
This new 52-unit building includes 22 supportive housing units for seniors facing chronic health and mobility challenges, along with an innovative ground-floor Community Wellness Hub operated by Links2Care through the Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team. Watch this short video to learn more about the construction and great features at 265 Kerr Street (YouTube video link). It is also Halton Region’s first Passive House Certified (external link) multi-residential building, which sets a standard for energy-efficient building design and the use of sustainable resources.
This project is a shining example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships and shared goals. Housing is a shared responsibility, and thanks to close collaboration across all levels of government and our community partners, we’re delivering real solutions for those who need them most.
With funding support from all levels of government, including $16.4 million in Regional funding, this development reflects our shared commitment to providing housing for those with the greatest need in the Halton community.
We are thankful to our Federal and Provincial partners for their critical support and for working closely with us to make this happen.
- $9.3 million from the Federal Government through the Rapid Housing Initiative
- $11.9 million in combined Federal/Provincial funding through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative
- $3 million in Provincial Last Mile funding to help complete construction
Thank you to our incredible teams in Housing and Support, Capital, Construction and Realty, and Energy Fleet and Facilities for creating and supporting new housing opportunities and making a lasting impact on our community.
Thank you for all you do to help people live, grow and thrive in Halton!
