At Halton Community Housing Corporation (HCHC), we know that housing is about more than just a place to live—it’s about creating shared spaces where tenants feel connected to each other, supported by their community, and proud to call home.
That’s why, for more than a decade, we’ve supported community garden initiatives across our housing sites—shared green spaces that bring tenants, staff and partners together.
Community gardens are taking root across our housing sites in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills—and they’re doing more than growing plants. They’re growing connection, collaboration and a stronger sense of community at every location.
What makes these gardens special?
Each garden is unique. Some are led and maintained entirely by community housing tenants who take pride in planting and caring for the space. Others are supported by community partners like Halton Environmental Network (external link), Halton Black Voices (external link), and Conservation Halton (external link).
Whether it’s chatting over the garden beds, lending a hand with planting, or celebrating new growth, these moments help strengthen bonds and foster a sense of belonging and shared ownership, all while keeping our housing sites open and welcoming to all.
We have more than 14 community gardens across our 40 housing sites—check out a few of them below.

More than just housing
These gardens are more than just shared green spaces—they’re a reflection of the pride, creativity and care that tenants, staff and partners bring to community housing every day in Halton.
As outlined in our Comprehensive Housing Strategy, Halton Region is committed to creating inclusive, people-centred housing solutions through collaboration. By working together to design and maintain these spaces, we’re fostering a sense of belonging and investing in the long-term success of our community housing.
