Regional Chair Gary Carr: Helpful waste tips and reminders for spring

With so many of us at home, we know that our community has relied on our curbside collection services more than ever. Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to make sure that residents and businesses have access to our essential services, including our curbside collection programs, while keeping our community safe. Many of you have been following our curbside collection safety tips and the enhanced measures at the Halton Waste Management Site to keep you and our collection crews safe. Thank you for taking these measures seriously while making sure you are putting your waste in the right place.

Halton’s convenient waste reduction programs make managing your household waste an easy part of your daily routine. Below are some helpful tips and information to support you and your household this spring.

Help prevent wind-blown litter

We can all work together to keep the neighbourhood clean and prevent materials from blowing away on windy days. As a reminder, please consider the following tips:

  • Put materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection, not the night before.
  • Consider using a clear plastic bag for recyclables.
  • Do not overfill your Blue Box.
  • Put shredded paper, napkins and paper towels in a paper or Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) certified bags, tie closed and place in the Green Cart, with the lid latch secured.

Yard waste collection resumes this spring

Starting the week of April 5, our Yard Waste collection program begins. Yard waste is collected every other week on the same day as garbage pick-up. Please remember to use a paper yard waste bag or a rigid container with a yellow yard waste sticker only. Do not place soil, grass or sod in yard waste bags or containers.
