On Wednesday, May 30, Halton Region donated three decommissioned ambulances to St. John Ambulance Canada which will help improve the health and safety of Halton residents. Two vehicles will go to the Burlington branch and one will go to the Oakville-Milton and Halton Hills branch. These vehicles will be used to provide support for residents attending community events in Halton.
“Halton is proud to donate these vehicles to St. John Ambulance Canada,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Our partnership enhances the first aid services available for residents at community events throughout our region, keeping residents safe and healthy.”
Decommissioned vehicles are typically five years in age and have travelled between 225,000 and 275,000 kilometres. These vehicles have completed their useful life cycle with Halton Region’s Paramedic Services and can still operate at full capacity to meet the needs of St. John Ambulance. Since 2000, Halton Region has donated 14 decommissioned vehicles to local St. John Ambulance branches. Ambulances have also been donated to various charities for use in Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, South Sudan and Ukraine.
“Having a wonderful community partner like Halton Region allows St. John Ambulance to continue to expand our Medical First Responder Units and our outreach within the region,” said Tim Bauer, Branch Manager at St. John Ambulance Oakville-Milton and Halton Hills. “Halton Region's generous donation of three ambulances allows our volunteer teams to provide first aid coverage at hundreds of community events every year.”
St. John Ambulance Canada is part of a world-wide, non-profit, non-denominational charitable organization that provides medical training (first aid) and community services. In Ontario, there are more than 5,000 people who annually volunteer hundreds of hours at community events.
