In honour of International Women’s Day, Halton Region is hosting a workshop for women that will feature informative presentations about the public sector and the role of elected officials. The Women in Gov’ Workshop is on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Halton Regional Centre located at 1151 Bronte Road in Oakville. The workshop is free and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Women play an important role in government both at a staff level and as elected officials,” said Regional Chair Gary Carr. “This is a great initiative that celebrates the contributions women make in government. We have a number of speakers lined up that will provide an inside perspective on careers and job opportunities at the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government.”
The event features a number of community leaders including Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr and Regional Councillor Blair Lancaster. Councillor Lancaster is a Regional representative at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities where she participates on the Standing Committee on Increasing Women´s Participation in Municipal Government to seek and support initiatives to increase women´s political participation in municipal government.
“It is very important for women to be involved in all aspects of civic life,” said Regional Councillor Blair Lancaster. “International Women’s Day provides a great opportunity to come together to discuss women’s participation in local government and to learn about the opportunities available for women seeking a career as a public servant or elected official. By sharing information and ideas we can encourage more women to get involved.”
The event includes presentations, a panel discussion, a workshop planning exercise and mock Council meeting in Halton Region’s Council Chambers.
