Asking Federal election candidates about issues facing Halton

Sep 13, 2019

The 2019 Federal election is just over a month away, and candidates have already begun campaigning in our community. On October 21, voters across Halton will cast their ballot for their next Member of Parliament (MP).

Last week, we sent a questionnaire to each of the candidates running for election in the ridings of Burlington, Milton, Oakville, Oakville North-Burlington and Wellington-Halton Hills. The questionnaire asked about their position on five issues of importance for people living in our community:

  • investing in roads and infrastructure;
  • confirming Regional and Provincial regulatory roles in the proposed CN truck-rail hub;
  • addressing climate change and supporting community resilience;
  • delivering universal access to broadband internet; and
  • supporting safe, affordable and accessible government-assisted housing.

We also asked candidates if they would vote against their party if necessary to represent the best interests of Halton residents. As we receive candidate responses, we will post them on our Federal election page to help you vote with confidence.

Before you cast your ballot, I encourage you to learn where candidates stand on these priorities for Halton. To learn more, visit our Federal election page on halton.ca.

A strong Halton helps build a strong Canada, and we will continue to advocate for long-term, predictable funding and legislative changes from other levels of government to help preserve our high quality of life, now and into the future. By working collaboratively with Halton’s MPs, we help keep our community a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.

Check back in the weeks leading up to Election Day for new information and make an informed decision at the polls on October 21. Your vote counts!
