Happy Canada Day!

Jun 28, 2019

As we celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday, we reflect on our nation’s history and recognize the importance of all Canadians in shaping our country. From the Indigenous peoples who inhabited these lands for generations to the many people who came to our great country after, we celebrate their contributions to our cultural heritage and distinct national identity.

On Canada Day, our community joins individuals and families across the nation to celebrate the home we share. I look forward this holiday every year, and I am proud to live in a country that values and protects the rights and freedoms we enjoy as Canadians. These attributes make our region – and our country – a great place to live. In Halton, we respect, value and celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of all residents. By welcoming diverse backgrounds, religions and traditions, we embrace new perspectives that help build a strong community.

There are many ways to join the celebrations this weekend. Please visit your local municipality’s website to find events and activities in Burlington (external link), Halton Hills (external link), Milton (external link) and Oakville (external link). I hope to see you around Halton!

No matter where you are – exploring our local beaches and conservation areas, attending a local event or enjoying a BBQ with friends and family – please remember to keep safety a top priority.

On behalf of Regional Council, I wish you and your families a very happy Canada Day. We can all take pride in being Canadian – by celebrating our identity, we live the values that keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.

Halton Region’s 24-hour and essential services will remain available this weekend and during long weekends throughout the summer. For more information, please visit halton.ca, use our OneHalton app or call 311. I hope you enjoy everything Halton has to offer this long weekend!
