Regional Chair Gary Carr: Asking Federal election candidates about Halton’s priority issues

Sep 09, 2021

Graphic instructing users to visit halton.ca to learn about where the Federal election candidates stand on important issues.

The 2021 Federal election is this month, and candidates are now campaigning in the community. On September 20, voters across Halton will cast their ballot for their next Member of Parliament (MP).

We sent a questionnaire to each of the candidates running for election in the ridings of Burlington, Milton, Oakville, Oakville North-Burlington and Wellington-Halton Hills. The questionnaire asked about their position on six priority issues of importance for people living in our community, including:

  • providing increased financial support for municipalities through the Gas Tax and as needed to support essential Regional programs, services and infrastructure projects;
  • delivering long-term sustainable,  allocation-based funding to support affordable housing;
  • ensuring there is an effective national early learning and childcare strategy as well as funding to support municipalities in effectively delivering this service;
  • supporting municipalities in building resilient communities and mitigating the effects of climate change;
  • expediting the delivery of affordable access to broadband internet services for all of Halton; and
  • supporting Halton’s position on the CN truck-rail hub in Milton.

We also asked candidates if they would vote against their party if necessary to represent the best interests of Halton residents. As we receive candidate responses, we will post them online on our Federal election page to help you make an informed vote.

Before casting your ballot on Election Day, I encourage you to learn where candidates stand on Halton’s priority advocacy issues. To learn more, visit our Federal election page on halton.ca.

A strong Halton helps build a strong Canada, and we will continue to advocate for long-term, predictable funding and legislative changes from other levels of government to help preserve our high quality of life, now and into the future. By working collaboratively with Halton’s MPs, we help keep our community a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.

Check back for new information and make an informed decision at the polls on September 20. Your vote counts!
