Regional Chair Gary Carr: Explore and enjoy Halton this summer!

The summer months are a perfect time to get active, visit new destinations and have some outdoor fun. As we look forward to vacation time and the end of the school year, I encourage you to take the time to experience everything Halton has to offer. From heading out for a bike ride to discovering local history, here are some ideas for how to explore and enjoy our community:

Experience Halton by bike

There are many on and off-road cycling trails in Halton. From a leisurely ride along the Lake Ontario waterfront to challenging escarpment routes at a Conservation Halton park, there’s something for everyone. Check out our interactive cycling map that features eight cycling routes ranging from 36 to 100 km in length, as well as bike-friendly, certified Ontario By Bike amenities.

Explore local parks and beaches

Halton offers many waterfronts and green spaces to enjoy the great outdoors!

  • Head to the beach! There are several recreational beaches at parks in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. Make sure to check Halton Beach Water Monitoring Results before you swim!

Discover and support local businesses

Shopping local and trying new restaurants is a great way to enjoy a summer treat while supporting our regional economy. Visit a local Business Improvement Area (BIA) to discover unique offerings near you, or enjoy fresh local food and décor by using our Simply Local online map to find farms and agri-businesses in Halton.

Take in Halton’s heritage

Learn about the history of our community by visiting a local heritage destination! Visit Ontario Museums to find museums, galleries and other heritage attractions in and around Halton, or check out the Government of Canada’s History and Heritage resources for national topics to expand your summer reading.

Attend a local event

Local events are great opportunities to share some fun and meet your neighbours while enjoying festivals, celebrations and more in your community. You can learn what’s happening near you by visiting the Local Municipal websites: City of Burlington, Town of Halton Hills, Town of Milton and Town of Oakville.
