Regional Chair Gary Carr: Make an informed decision on June 2

On June 2, Halton voters will decide on their next Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP)—your voice at Queen’s Park. To help you learn more about local candidate positions on priority issues, we sent a questionnaire to all candidates running for election in the ridings of Burlington, Milton, Oakville, Oakville North-Burlington and Wellington-Halton Hills.

The questionnaire asked Provincial election candidates how they would address critical priorities for Halton’s future:

Addressing the housing affordability and supply crisis: Ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to housing across all levels of government, provide adequate funding to support growth and respect local planning policy decisions.

Investments in affordable and assisted housing: Ensure residents have access to safe, affordable and assisted housing and deliver long-term sustainable, allocation-based funding to increase housing supply.

Delivering growth-related infrastructure: Ensure there are Provincial infrastructure investments and a plan focused on growing communities, including the delivery of schools, hospitals and highways necessary to increase housing supply and economic growth.

Adequate funding for Public Health: Provide adequate base funding along with a long-term stable funding plan for Public Health.

Investments in long-term care: Invest in Long-Term Care reform to provide long-term sustainable funding, increased beds and an immediate human resources strategy.

Immediate access to reliable broadband internet: Deliver affordable access to broadband internet services for rural and urban homes and businesses in Halton.

Supporting municipal climate change and adaptation: Provide long-term funding for municipal climate change mitigation and adaptation work.
