Each day, we see news reports about the impact of war on people living in areas of conflict in many areas around the world. As a father, and grandfather it reminds me of how thankful I am for the courage and service of our Veterans and soldiers during times of war, conflict and peace. I am thinking about all the people impacted and the brave Canadian soldiers bringing much needed aid and stability to these areas of the world, helping people when they are most vulnerable.

On National Indigenous Veteran’s Day (Nov. 8) and Remembrance Day (Nov. 11), we honour the bravery and sacrifice of all members of the Canadian Armed Forces, both past and present. We remember all those who sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars, Korean War, War in Afghanistan and in ongoing peacekeeping missions and exercises. We are grateful that the Canadian Armed Forces continues to play an important role across the globe, bringing aid, stability and support to areas in conflict.

With all that is happening in our world, it important that we never forget the immense contributions of our Veterans and soldiers. I encourage you to wear a poppy as a symbol of recognition and remembrance and to attend a local Remembrance Day Ceremony to reflect and give thanks for all our Veterans and soldiers. Visit legion.ca to find a location to purchase poppies and find details about Remembrance Day ceremonies in your community.

Thank you to our Veterans and soldiers, both past and present, for protecting our freedom and security, and providing much needed support to others around the world during times of war, conflict and instability.
