Regional Chair Gary Carr: Let’s talk about mental health

Jan 18, 2023

Bell Let's Talk logo

Bell Let’s Talk Day is taking place on January 25, 2023. It provides an opportunity to continue an important conversation and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and mental illness. Bell Let’s Talk donates funds to support mental health programs for the one in five Canadians who will experience a form of mental illness in their lifetime.

I encourage you to join the conversation today and every day throughout the year to help create a more supportive community for everyone. This year, Bell will be committing $10 million for Canadian mental health programs. You can share your own actions using the #BellLetsTalk hashtag to inspire others to join the movement toward making positive change.

Since the campaign began in 2010, over $129 million has gone toward mental health initiatives, supporting more than 5.5 million Canadians with access to mental health services.

Resources available in Halton

Let’s create positive change together. We can all make a difference by talking about mental health and well-being with our family, friends, neighbours and colleagues. I encourage you to take good care of your mental health, just as you would take care of your physical health.

If you are looking for information and tips on taking care of your mental health, our Mental Health webpage provides information for people of all ages, including links to websites and apps from a wide range of expert agencies and organizations. You can also visit the HRPS Mental Health Support page or the Province’s COVID-19 Support for People page.

If you or someone you know needs assistance, the Halton Region branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) offers free telephone counselling by calling 289-291-5396 as well as other mental health and addiction supports. If you know someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis, the Halton Regional Police Service Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-877-825-9011.
