I am proud to share that Halton Region will receive up to $3.9M in funding over four years, through the Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF).

This funding is part of $250M being invested by Public Safety Canada (external link) to support evidence-based, community-led prevention and intervention initiatives that address gun and gang violence in communities across Canada. While Halton has a low rate of gun and gang violence, the issue continues to be one that crosses jurisdictions, and requires a variety of approaches to address. This funding provides important support to local municipal and community partner efforts to help prevent gun violence before it starts.

We will be aligning Building Safer Communities in Halton initiatives with our existing Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWB). This plan, which was first introduced in 2017, brings together community partners to work on issues that impact the health, safety and well-being of residents. Through our Community Safety and Well-Being Plan we will be setting up an Action Table with community partners to develop a multi-year strategy and identify areas of greatest need at the local level. This funding will allow us to continue to support the well-being of young people and help us maximize the impact of Community Safety and Well-Being initiatives in Halton.

By supporting community safety, health and well-being, we keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
