Community Development:
  • The community garden initiative is enjoyed by families and seniors. The Halton Food Council currently runs a seniors’ tea social once a month providing seniors with the opportunity to socialize and connect. Each month has a theme that focuses on the produce from the garden which residents are given to take home. September’s tea is entitled ‘Tomato Festival’ and October is Harvest and Thanksgiving.
  • Acclaim Health, through the Art in the House Program provides weekly chair yoga and creative arts classes for residents in the Fall, Winter and Spring. These programs provide the opportunity for seniors to engage with each other as well as nurture their physical and mental health.
  • The Halton Food Council offers food related programming for children and youth residing in the community. The focus is healthy eating related to the vegetables grown in the community garden located in their community. Children and youth learn the basics of growing food, gardening, harvesting, and making various foods with the produce harvested from the garden.
  • ArtHouse runs an “After School Club” for the children and youth residing in the community. Participants receive assistance with homework during the school year. In addition to homework assistance, participants engage in art related activities as well as physical education.
  • Frontline Outreach offers free weekly BBQ’s during the summer months. The goal is to encourage residents to meet their neighbours, encourage positive social interactions and to strengthen their sense of belonging to a community.
