Regional Chair Gary Carr: Halton Region supporting community partners deliver vital services

Jul 27, 2020

These past few months have been challenging for all of us, and especially for those most vulnerable in our community—residents coping with isolation and those in need of food, housing or mental health supports. Throughout this difficult time, Halton Region has continued to work with local organizations to deliver critical services and offer supports in the community for our residents who need it most.

One of the ways we are supporting the community is by investing in local programs and services through the Halton Region Community Investment Fund (HRCIF) and funding from the Federal and Provincial governments.

Many of these programs and services offered through local, non-profit and social service organizations help our most vulnerable residents by supporting housing needs, reducing food insecurity, creating access to essential goods, addressing isolation among older adults and providing mental health services.

A total of 42 grants have been given to organizations, including:

  • $193,340 to Wesley Urban Ministries to support case management and rehousing efforts for single individuals across Halton.
  • $176,230 to Food for Life to expand food access points, deliver food boxes to high needs households and provide outreach programming.
  • $67,937 to Acclaim Health to support the well-being and lessen the isolation of older adults.
  • $29,869 to Canadian Mental Health Association - Halton Region Branch to provide free counselling for residents 16 years old and older.

I would like to thank our local community partners for their innovation and for adapting quickly during this unprecedented time—your commitments have helped support the health, safety and well-being of our most vulnerable residents. Halton Region will continue to provide funding to support our community as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. For information on funding opportunities for local organizations, please email communityresponse@halton.ca. For a full list of the programs and services that received funding, visit our COVID-19 Social and Community Supports webpage or call 311.

The health, safety and well-being of Halton residents remains our priority. By working together with local community organizations, and helping them deliver services and programs essential to residents in need, we are keeping Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
