Regional Chair Gary Carr: Our Public Works staff keep Halton a great place to live

May 17, 2021

May 16 to 22 is National Public Works Week! The theme for 2021 is #StrongerTogether, which recognizes the great work that Public Works staff do to support our community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they have continued to provide critical services in waste management, water and wastewater services and Regional infrastructure projects that so many of our residents rely on each and every day.

Our Public Works team provides several programs and services that help maintain a high quality of life in Halton. This includes our Water and Wastewater teams who work to provide access to safe, high-quality drinking water. They also play a critical role in making sure that wastewater continues to be treated and is safely discharged back into the environment. Thank you for maintaining these important services!

Our staff in road operations work every day to keep our roads safe and traffic flowing smoothly in Halton. Whether we’re widening roads or installing new bikes lanes, the construction activity you see day-to-day is building a better Halton for today and tomorrow.

We also have staff that work to deliver excellent waste management programs to residents. Your participation in our programs to divert waste from the landfill is supported by a dedicated team that provides timely customer service and ensures your efforts have a positive impact on the environment.

As a reminder, please continue to protect our collection crews by bagging and tying all garbage and organic material before placing it at the curb. You can easily stay up-to-date on Halton’s waste management programs and services by visiting halton.ca/waste, using the OneHalton app, or signing up for regular collection reminders and waste tips delivered straight to your inbox.

In 2020, we ran our #StrongerTogether campaign, which featured Regional staff working on the frontlines during the pandemic. I’m pleased to share two videos from the campaign again this year that feature some of our staff from Public Works:

Thank you again to all of our Public Works staff who are working to keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire. For more information on Halton’s response to COVID-19, please visit halton.ca/COVID19.
