We continue to experience severe and unpredictable wet weather in Halton and southern Ontario caused by a changing climate. To ensure our community is prepared for extreme weather events, Halton continues to offer support for residents with the cost of home improvements that can help reduce the risk of basement flooding. Our Enhanced Basement Flooding Prevention Subsidy program provides financial support and access to licensed professionals so you can protect your home.

Homeowners can apply for one or more of our subsidies to get help with the cost of:

We also have a Guide to Flooding Prevention and Recovery (PDF file) which includes other helpful tips and steps that you can take to prepare before, during and after a flood, such as:

  • other home improvements, like grading your lot to slope away from your house;
  • how to create an emergency preparedness plan and 72-hour Go-Kit; and
  • tips to keep your household safe and healthy when cleaning up and making repairs after a flooding event.

I encourage residents to take advantage of this program and other resources the Region offers to protect your property and our neighbourhoods. By working together, we can help ensure our community is resilient to unpredictable weather and keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
