Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care System
On March 28, 2022, the Federal and Provincial Governments announced a funding agreement that will reduce the average cost of child care in Ontario.
Over the summer, licensed child care centres and licensed home child care providers will choose whether to participate in the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care System in 2022. Providers that join the system this year will reduce fees for children under the age of six by up to 25 per cent (to a minimum of $12 per day), retroactive to April 1. Participating child care centres and home child care providers will further reduce child care fees by 50% on average, by the end of December 2022.
After a child care centre or home child care provider enrolls, eligible parents will be contacted by their provider about a rebate for their reduction in applicable fees paid after April 1, 2022.
Enrollment is optional, and parents will only receive a rebate if their child care provider participates in the system. Parents must continue to pay their current fees while their provider decides whether to join the system and complete the enrollment process. Talk to your family’s child care centre or home child care provider to learn if they plan to enroll this year.
Halton Region is working with local child care centres and home child care providers to create a consistent and streamlined approach for enrollment in the system. We will share more information as it becomes available.
